going back.

You’ve heard me say, if you are looking for heroes, start here…with the WMF people.

They are some of mine.

Through a series of connections, I found the Word Made Flesh team in Freetown. One of the gals literally saved the day and helped us in Freetown when we were there (in a rather unpredictable situation) picking up Zeke and Kora. Another staff, Faye, worked with me to set up a system where a group of us could sell the handmade bags of young tailors in their vocational program for street kids.

I have often wished I could sit at the feet of these women. Their lives from afar served as inspiration and examples and were a huge part of defining changes in our own lives.

Well, the opportunity arose to take a small team to Freetown to work for a short time with the Word Made Flesh crew. Andy and I agreed that it was something too close to my heart to pass up.

So in a little over a month, I’m headed back to Africa.

Will be taking a few women with me. (This first go and it is a very small team. I’m hoping in the future there will be other opportunities…)

We are going to do the best we can to serve those who serve the poor so faithfully. To get to know some of the kids they work with. We will get to spend some time with David and Sheku…some of the girls who are talented seamstresses will work with them. (Don’t worry, I will not be responsible for this part). WMF has just opened up a new center on the edge of Kroo Bay slums. We hope to create some projects that we can participate in with the kids while we are there…beginning to open doors for meaningful relationships.

You’ll hear more about it. I am looking forward to telling their story further.

Crazy. Exciting.

It’s that darn heartbeat. And these folks know it so much clearer than I do…can’t wait to get up close to them.

(I have a little project I want to do with all the people who have bought David and Sheku bags. So be watching for that next week! It will be fun..)

Wow! So jealous. I am sure it will be an amazing trip. My dad just got back from taking a team of ten or so to Freetown, they worked at a wonderful orphanage that their church is supporting. I can not WAIT to hear all about it!
