from Larry.

Larry, the pastor in Maryland, who jumped on at the very beginning in support of Water for Christmas, has become a voice of wisdom and encouragement as this campaign for clean water continues.

He’s a smart guy. Andy and I love and trust him. And he’s a tiny bit older. :-)

So when I wonder if perhaps we have lost our minds and gone astray in reckless passion, he is serving as a bit of a control. A WFC mentor–it’s a title I’m giving him right now.

And he sent me an email this morning—

“The amount of money that is raised is important, don’t get me wrong; but the bigger impact is the way that lives are changing, people are adjusting their lifestyles, people are giving things up and doing it gladly….People give money to causes all the time, then go back to living their lives without much change except they feel a little better about themselves. Changing lives will, ultimately, bring more water from the African soil.

And how do you set a goal for life change? Let me know if you figure that out.”

Right. What he said.

That, my friends, is what it’s all about.

When our lives change, our hearts change.. they won’t be able to contain the clean water spraying from the ground in Africa….

We had a huge discussion in staff meeting today about being “Gloriously ruined” and about what it would look like if the church was more missional and not so program driven. It would not be very measurable on paper but the impact on the kingdom?…unfathomable. Larry read the email he sent you today and we all agreed. Life change is what we’re going for.

What happens on Sunday morning is not what’s really important.

What really matters is being the hands and feet of Jesus to our family, friends and neighbors and who is our neighbor?…everyone, especially the least of these.
