WATER FOR CHRISTMAS: TOOLS.

(Read ‘water’ post below FIRST…or else this isn’t going to make sense.)

Ready to get started?

Here’s some things to utilize. Use them. Add your own.

1. Blog Buttons. I’ve put up a ‘I Want Water For Christmas’ blog button in my sidebar. If you click on it, it will take you directly to the fundraising page where donations are made. Put it on your own blog. (click on ‘share’, copy the html code and embed in your sidebar). Begin to make a statement that this year you are giving up something for Water.

2. Here’s the basic logo:

What we did is print out business cards of these.

We tied them up like this:

And will give them to people who are interested in joining us. You can hand them out to friends and family to let them know that this year you want Water For Christmas.

If you would like the pdf file for these, I would be happy to send it to you.

Then you can print as many and as often as you need.

You can use it to print poster’s as well. Which we did also.

Email me for logo pdf’s– ( jodylanders at gmail dot com)

3. You can also GIVE Water for Christmas.

We printed the same cards as pictured above but they say, “I Gave…Water For Christmas.”

I have the pdf file for those too.

AND Amy made bracelets to signify a gift of water. They are simple reminders of clean water and the people living without. They are made with glass beads from Ghana and the bracelets–which come with an “I Gave…Water For Christmas” card– can be bought at Amy’s etsy shop for $5. All proceeds go to Water For Christmas.

4. We are going to be setting up Water For Christmas tables in some local grocery stores and businesses. We see it as an opportunity to dialogue with people and perhaps get them thinking as well about clean water. We will have the cards available to give people to take home and use and will collect donations on the spot as well.

Our table will be something along these line…with the little cards tied in ribbon ready for people to take…

5. To collect donations:

You can direct them to the website to donate there. Water4christmas.com

You can collect cash and checks and mail them to Charity Global, 150 Varick Street, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10013. Make the checks out to Charity Global and be sure to write Water For Christmas in the memo lines.

All online donations generate a tax-deductible receipt at time of transaction. Receipts for all other forms of payment will be mailed.

6. Check with your place of business or your husband’s employer. They often match any charitable donations. You can direct them to charity:water.org for verification.

7. Another way–Tesi will be dancing for Water on her blog. :-)

She will have videos of various people dancing. For a small donation, you can watch the video of the day. It’s going to be a good time over there.

And I will be dancing live on the internet when we get to 10 billion.

:-)

8. Let me know as you take this on and develop your own ideas. I will be getting donation updates so I hope to set up a thermometer as we get going to track our progress.

And perhaps we will get a weekly Water For Christmas Stories going. Where we can all come and share how things are going and any stories along the way. Be watching for that and keeping me updated.

9. We need to work on a small hand out too to have available to give people at the display tables and when we talk about it to friends and family that summarizes the water crisis and the Water For Christmas vision. I’m working on one…I’ll have it available soon. Feel free to do your own as well using the logo ect.

We had a great team getting this up and running…Tesi, Cassie, Amy, Kelly, Taylor, Kari, Sheila, Carrie…and now it includes you if you want.

Use these. Start dreaming. Start taking ownership of this in your own communities and families.

And let the ripples of clean water begin….

This is amazing! Count me in! I will be doing all I can in WI to help with this cause!
You can also count on my prayers throughout this project!

oops – jody, can you please email me the file in order to print the copies off? Thanks!

I am SO already on it! I linked to your first post ASAP after reading it and have now added the button. As a busy mom of too many…and spending lots of time in hospitals and medical facilities….I’m feeling led to put it on a T-shirt and wear it around…having the cards to hand out when questioned about it!
You know I LOVE Africa and this is SUCH a need….I have been burdened by the water situation ever since my visit!!!!

What you meant to say is Dad is working on a hand-out :) You are so great at delegating!

jody 11/03/2008 at 6:28 pm

joanna and taylor–
i AM working on it. I sent Dad my draft.
He tried to do one.
It wasn’t that good.
So I’m at square one again.
Thanks for all your confidence!
:-)

I’ve visited your blog often and am so inspired by your family and even your smallest contributions to your local community – and the world community – turning into something even greater than ever expected. I wanted to comment because I think you should use parts (or all) of your original blog post about Water for Christmas in your handout. It got me choked up, inspired and, as it is obvious it is from the heart, I think it will reach out to other people to be inspired and want to truly give from the heart. I, too, will pray for this project throughout its course!
