I’ve had a few questions…
So here it goes.
It’s just plain coconut oil. Found in the grocery section usually with the other oils, sometimes with the asian food or something.
I have a huge jar. It’s solid. Looks like wax. But you rub it around in your hands for just a second and it instantly melts. And then I rub it all over the African babies. It soaks right in, leaving them soft but not at all oily or greasy.
And one $5 jar is lasting a long time. I was getting weary of the expensive lotions it was taking to keep them moisturized.
This is working so well.
Yeah for coconut oil!

I just sent 4 men out the door for hair cuts.
3 of them I want cut. One I would like to see stay long.
And when they left, the status was:
3 wanted desperately to keep their hair long.
And one desperately wanted his short.
You can guess who is who by the fact that my stomach hurts.
Becky, just be prepared.
And know this haircut idea was one that totally backfired on me….

this:
(I didn’t get a self-portrait of when I had my turn)

And this was the one moment…and by moment I mean 3 seconds…where they were not attacking each other:

Don’t have much to report today.
Usually I would take pictures on days like this…but the kids are not looking very photogenic.
They need a good rub down of lotion (and seriously, coconut oil on the babies…why did i not know about this before?! it’s awesome) and perhaps some hair product and good brush through.
Quincy could use some clean clothes.
And I could use an Extreme Makeover.
And then perhaps we will be back…..

…how incredibly helpful my husband is on Monday’s?
Monday is when I scurry around and clean and run errands and try to accomplish all those things that are hard to do with the toddler trio in tow.
It is so, so helpful.
Then I am ready to tackle the week usually with a small semblance of order.
Today was a normal Monday…except I tuckered out at 11:30 or so.
Completely out of energy.
I forced myself to finish the ‘minimum’ amount of cleaning and chores, but didn’t get to everything that I hoped.
My mind is racing too…I can’t concentrate. My heart is heavy for a number of friends who are carrying enormous burdens right now. And I talked with a mom who just gave birth to baby with Bladder Exstrophy…and I can’t shake the memories and emotion that come sailing back with that too.
So it’s Monday.
And we thank God for a new week and know that His mercies will be sufficient…

Ezekiel 16:49
“Now this was the sin of you sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.”
ouch.

A friend of ours is a nurse who is part of a group that does amazing work in Haiti. (*Watch the video Defining Dignity linked on their homepage. It is powerful and you will recognize a song and voice at the end of it.) Thank you, Liz, for helping us keep our eyes open.
After this post last week about the fleas that burrow in the flesh and could be prevented by washing with clean water, she directed me to these pictures taken by one of their doctors in Haiti. Apparently these sand fleas are a big problem there too. These pictures are the surgery performed by Dr. DeNoon to remove the fleas from the feet of a brother and sister who came into a clinic. It is very painful…as it looks. The first picture is the removal, the white thing is the flea (!), the third is the feet after the removal and the fourth is the children with their mother. You can see their feet wrapped in gauze and they stayed at the clinic for several days for dressing changes.

It’s called tungiasis.
It’s real.
And it doesn’t have to be.

Apparently we play hard. Or are very destructive. Or perhaps a combination of the two
Nonetheless, these are two of our most used toys.
We are still currently using both. Not sure how long that will last….

I had just Kora at the store with me today.
The lady behind us in line was talking to her and telling her how cute her clothes were.
She said, “Girls have all the cute stuff. I have two boys and never got to buy that stuff.”
Me: “Yeah. I know.”
She looked at me puzzled.
Me: “I have 5 boys. She’s my first girl. I have spent my time in the boys section.”
Her: “Oh.”
I don’t think she believed me.
