Last day in WA for Cassie.
So we made it another good one.
We ate salad at Bayview overlooking the water.
We went to Blue Heron Bakery (“natural before it was fashionable”) for a cup of organic coffee and pastries made from artisan well water and spelt flour.
Took our coffee and walked around Tumwater Falls….

Then went for another really pretty drive to Poulsbo, a little Norwegian town. Beautiful. Adorable. Shockingly very sunny.
Walked the boardwalk.
Sat on the patio for dinner.

Tomorrow it’s up early to the airport and a return to the routine for both of us.
It has been a precious escape of fun and friendship.
I love her.
The end.

Yesterday the city. Today, nature.
It started out as just a drive. We thought that was pretty awesome in itself.

But we ended up on a 6 mile hike into the enchanted forest…complete with little flying fairies and talking trees. (well…not really, but there could of been and we would of been no more taken with it than we already were…)

It was so quiet. Only the sound of the roaring water occasionally. Cassie and I were both totally double rainbowish about the whole thing. (Double rainbowish is a real word now. Just decided). We were gasping around every corner.

At one point we were so happy with the earth that we felt the need to just do this…(OK, that too might be exaggerating just slightly…we were taking pictures of the trees)
And you do not get to know what happened right before this picture. Some things just have to stay in the enchanted forest…

And then, what happens is you wind around the corner on the trail and this literally takes your breath away….

I am not kidding you. It was unbelievable.
Already have plans to take Andy back. We will hike our stuff in to camp for the night.
Perhaps we will find some other friends to join us…because well, it’s awesome.
We will take the kids someday when they stop complaining.
Because there is no complaining in the enchanted forest. The tree told me.

We have seen them. Embraced them. Loved them.

A. LOT. of pictures coming. Be warned.

We have been watching ticket prices for months. Months.
Never a good dip in prices to fly to Seattle.
It was getting pretty depressing.
So then last night, Cassie found a flight. That left in 11 hours.
And we went for it.
And today she is here!
Oh my heavens, I love this girl.
And how happy am I?

We are not wasting one minute of out 2.5 days together.
We took Seattle today. Walked Alki. Took the water taxi. Hit the market. Shared awesome conversation over good food.

Sweet friendship.
So thankful.

We spent Friday night on a rooftop in downtown Seattle having a bbq with some old and new friends.
Love.

Tonight we spent with some friends on the quiet grounds if their really amazing farm .
We collected the eggs from the chicken coop. We picked strawberries, We fed the horses and the cattle. We groomed one of the horses. Rode him. Learned all sorts of new farm vocabulary and animal behavior science. Fascinating.
Love.

This is one of those real smiles that are so breathtakingly beautiful…

This one.
Is adorable.
And so exhausting.

So this has been an interesting week.
I don’t have words for it yet.
Not horrible. Not awesome. Just weird.
—————
It’s so expensive to fly to Seattle?
Why??
————–
I need a really good laugh.
Or I really good cry.
I can’t really tell which one is most needed at this point.
Perhaps I could do them simultaneously.
———
There are people everywhere in this house.
Everywhere.
———-
Yah for Andy being home!
We missed him.

Good night.

I found Andy last night on a glassy lake in the shadow of Mount St. Helens doing this:

He’s clearly fully embracing life here in the Pacific Northwest.
June 23, 2011
We caught some sea creatures:

I caught some hugs:

Played some catch:

And had a jumping contest:

This is a totally fun picture:

Even Kora was pretty amazing…

I did not win.

(And yes, I’m laughing. Because the whole time I was terrified I was going to break my ankle and be stuck on the beach by myself with 6 kids. And plus, I kept thinking about this. And giggling. Apparently, I have not changed too much…)
June 21, 2011
Andy is out of town for a couple days.
The kids are all home for summer.
Which means….”Jody: You will not get anything done. Just accept it. And go to the beach.”
So we did.

Alki beach. Just the seven of us.

A really beautiful day.
Next time, we’ll bring Andy…
