At our celebration at the park this morning with our church family, one of the young LIberians in our congregation came up to Kora and just started braiding her hair.

I almost hugged her.

Then told her to sit down and I got Kora a snack and told her not to stop. :-)

Kora clearly had done this a number of times in her life….before coming to my home.

I think she liked it.

I tried to watch and learn…but I’m telling you now I will not be able to do it.

So I told this sweet young lady that we would be calling her again and meeting her often.

It’s adorable. I have NO idea how she did it.

Kora looks absolutely precious with her braided hair. I never learned to braid the hair of my two girls and they had straight hair, so I would never be able to do this either. I always had French braids as a child; my mother would braid my hair each morning we had some place special to go. Most of the time, my hair was everywhere it shouldn’t have been. Now at 66 years old, I am trying to let my hair grow longer for my grandson’s wedding in June of 2009. Loved the pictures of the three older boys!

I love this post. It’s so true how we, as black girls, are trained to sit still for our hair. No matter who is doing it. Or stand in her case. :) Your family is absolutely stunning!
